A set of scales for measuring the development of intellectual abilities of children between 2½ and 8½ years of age, divided into verbal ability, perceptual ability, quantitative ability, memory, and motor ability, also providing a score for general cognitive ability based on pooling the other scores. [Named after the US developmental psychologist Dorothea McCarthy (1906–74) who introduced them]
