US choreographer. He studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Houston Ballet Academy before joining Houston Ballet in 1990. His interest in choreography developed as a student and he was made a choreographic apprentice in 1989, even before joining the company; he was subsequently promoted to choreographic associate (1995–2007). He created many works there including Touched (mus. Brubeck, 1994), Second before the Ground (mus. Kronos Quartet, traditional African, 1996), Bound (mus. Britten, 2000), Peter Pan (mus. Elgar, 2002), and Touches (mus. Brubeck, 2007) but also choreographed for other companies including American Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, and New York City Ballet. In 2004 he formed the Trey McIntyre Project, presenting seasonal programmes of dance, and in 2008 this became full time, based in Boise, ID. McIntyre's works for this company include Go Out (mus. traditional bluegrass, 2006) and The Blue Boy (mus. Beethoven, 2007).
