Quick Reference

A classification of congenital conditions such as deformities and inborn errors of metabolism established by the American geneticist Victor McKusick (1921–2008) that is described and discussed in a landmark monograph Mendelian Inheritance in Man (1966). Every inherited disease identified in McKusick's classification is assigned a MIM number, and this number has been universally adopted by human geneticists. Frequent revisions have ensured that the McKusick classification remains abreast of advances in clinical and molecular genetics.
