Australian composer. From 1955 gave recitals of contemp. pf. mus. Cond. f. Australian p. of Pierrot Lunaire, 1959. In 1961 visited Spain, developing interest in work of the poet Lorca. Up to this point his comps. had been of the Bartók‐Hindemith genre; thereafter he followed Messiaen and Boulez, with a further influence from Indonesian mus. Programme planner for ABC 1961–8.
