Quick Reference

The average angular velocity of a body in an elliptical orbit, often measured in degrees per day. If the orbit is perturbed, allowance must be made for changes in the period of revolution. For an unperturbed orbit, the mean motion is the same as the angular velocity that the body's radius vector would have if the orbit were circular and of radius equal to the semimajor axis of the ellipse.
