An early jellyfish. During the uppermost Precambrian, beach deposits laid down in the Ediacara Hills of southern Australia were covered by a layer of fine muddy sediments. The result was the unique preservation of numerous soft-bodied organisms including jellyfish such as Medusina mawsoni and Medusinites. See ediacaran fossils.
