A disorder (mal de Meleda) in which there is symmetrical cornification of the palms and soles, with ichthyotic changes elsewhere. It occurs with relatively high frequency among inhabitants of the island of Meleda in the Adriatic and is caused by mutation in the gene for secreted Ly6/PLAUR domain-containing protein 1 (SLURP1).
