Belgian philosopher and prelate. As a professor at Louvain, he was an ardent supporter of the Thomist revival. In 1906 he was made Abp. of Malines and in 1907 created a cardinal. In his Lenten Pastoral for 1908 he denounced G. Tyrrell. He was the leading spirit on the RC side in the Malines Conversations.
