Quick Reference

(date unknown),

monk. Patron of St Merryn (Cornwall), he is probably identical with the Breton saint honoured at Lanmerin and Plomelin. In the Middle Ages the legendary saint Marina (who was supposed to have lived as a monk for years in disguise and even to have been falsely accused of fathering a child) was believed to be the patron of St Merryn. For this reason the Cornish church held the feast on 7 July, whereas the Breton feast was on 4 April.
