Quick Reference

A methylated derivative of amphetamine, a powerful central nervous system stimulant that induces wakefulness and hyperactivity and is therefore a recreational drug, widely used illicitly with street names such as speed, uppers, and crystal meth. It is often combined with other illicit designer drugs in powerful and dangerous mixtures. Prolonged or repeated use can induce psychotic states resembling paranoia. It is easily synthesized, so “laboratories” to make it have proliferated, and illicit use has become a serious public health problem.
