Quick Reference

Mock epic by John Trumbull, of which the first two cantos were published separately (1775–76) and the complete work in 1782. This burlesque, in four cantos of Hudibrastic couplets, satirizes the events of the year 1775, deals humorously with the leading figures of the Revolution, and presents the character of M'Fingal, a Tory New England squire whose arguments are so inept that he is entirely overwhelmed by Honorius (seemingly John Adams).
