Filters that are composed of a meshwork of cellulose acetate or nitrate ~150 µm thick. They can be sterilized by autoclaving, and the smaller pore sizes (0.22 μm, 0.45 μm) are used to filter out microorganisms from heat-labile solutions, such as culture medium. Filters with pore sizes of several micrometres that allow cells to move through them are used in Boyden chambers. Nucleopore filters are quite different. TN Millipore filter.
