The middle of the three gyri on the lateral surface of each temporal lobe, running horizontally between the superior temporal gyrus (temporal operculum) and the inferior temporal gyrus, occupied at its posterior extremity by Area V5 of the visual cortex, which is responsible for visual perception of motion. Also called the median temporal gyrus or the middle temple. MT abbrev.
