A refugee from Antwerp, Mierdman lived for several years in England, printing works by English and German reformers, as well as Tyndale's and Coverdale's Bibles. On Queen Mary's accession he resumed printing on the Continent. Mierdman produced the first Italian book (a children's catechism) in England and printed several books for John Bale in Antwerp and London.
