A Serbian mathematician and physicist from the University of Belgrade, Milankovitch made important studies of solar radiation. He concluded that there were periodic changes in the amount of radiation received on Earth, caused by eccentricities in the Earth's orbit. These led to cyclical climatic changes, causing glacial periods, etc. See also milankovitch cycles.
