Serbian army officer who, after the fall of Yugoslavia in World War II, organized royalist partisans against German forces. He structured his forces into bands (četa, prounced cheta), and these became known as chetniks. Their relations with the communist partisans of Tito was uneasy. After Tito gained power, Mihailovich was tried and shot for collaboration with Germans and war crimes.
