The largest known virus (Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus, APMV) with a capsid diameter of 400 nm and a linear double-stranded DNA genome (1.2 Mbp) encoding more than 900 genes (comparable to some rickettsias). Probably one of the nucleocytoplasmic large DNA virus group. It may cause some forms of pneumonia.
