Irish monk. His home was in the Achonry district of Connacht; his father was called Lonan. He became a successful soldier who was converted to monasticism in his early manhood. His principal foundation was Timahoe (Co. Laois), but he died at another of his monasteries at Derinish (Co. Cavan). Some monasteries in Scotland also claimed him as their founder. There are said to be more than fifty saints called Mochua; Mochua of Timahoe has his feast on 24 December.
