A set of guidelines or criteria for a specific activity or service. There are several examples in public health. For instance, a detailed set of specified health objectives for the United States is one of the initiatives of Healthy People 2000 and 2010. In collaboration with the American Public Health Association, the US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion established expert groups to draw up specific health objectives, many with specified quantitative targets, to be achieved by specified dates. These objectives and targets generated discussions and plans about actions required to achieve the desired outcomes.
