One of the FERM domain protein family (membrane-organizing extension spike protein, pasin2, 577 aa) widely expressed in different tissues and localized to filopodia and other membranous protrusions that are important for cell–cell recognition and signalling and for cell movement, where it acts as a cytoskeletal adaptor. Pasin-2 is identical to moesin. Moesin is excluded from the region of T-cell/APC contact (the immunological synapse) and colocalizes with leukosialin (CD43). Platelet moesin levels are secondarily reduced in Wiskott–Aldrich syndrome.
