Quick Reference

A type of tektite found in the Czech Republic. The name derives from the Moldau (Vltava) River in the province of Bohemia, near where the first of them were found. It has been suggested that the moldavites originated in the impact that produced the 24-km diameter Ries crater, around 15 million years old, some 500 km away near Nordlingen, Germany.
