The weekly publication of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, containing cumulative summaries of numbers of cases of reportable (notifiable) diseases, i.e., communicable diseases of public health importance, as well as short reports of current interest about conditions of public health importance. The data are almost entirely about domestic US conditions, but occasionally there are reports and discussion about conditions occurring elsewhere in the world. See http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/ for current issue. Many other countries produce equivalent timely reports as a feature of their public health systems. WHO's bilingual Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER)/Relevé Épidémiologique Hebdomadaire (REH) provides surveillance information for the entire world.
