The immediate post‐Roman kingdom in south‐east Wales was Glywysing. It gave way to the kingdom of Morgannwg, which may have been named after Morgan Hen (‘Morgan the Old’), who died 974. The area was penetrated by the Normans after 1066 and Robert Fitzhamon established the lordship of Glamorgan, beginning his castle at Cardiff c.1080.
