(Janáček: From the House of the Dead). Ten. A prisoner who goes by the name of Luka Kuzmič. He tells his story—he is in this Siberian prison because he murdered a prison officer. When another prisoner, the old man Šiškov, tells his story, it implicates Morozov, who had an affair with Šiškov's wife. As Filka dies and is carried out, Šiškov recognizes him and curses him. Created (1930) by Emil Olšovský.
