Quick Reference

A model used to estimate the relative contributions of muscle growth (see hypertrophy) and neural factors to strength gains. Moritani and de Vries measured force production and neural activity simultaneously. The model is based on the assumptions that strength gains due solely to neural factors should be associated with increases of neural activity within a muscle without any change in force production per motor unit, and that strength gains due solely to muscle growth should occur without any increases in neural activity.
