American mathematical statistician. After his ScM at Carnegie Mellon U in 1939, Mosteller was supervised by Wilks for his 1946 PhD at Princeton U. That year he joined the faculty at Harvard U, where he spent his career. He served as President of the Psychometric Society (1957), the ASA (1967), and the IMS (1974). He was awarded the Wilks Award of the ASA in 1986 and the COPSS Fisher Lectureship in 1987. He was an Honorary Life Member of the International Statistical Institute.
