An Anglican organization of women which aims at upholding ‘the sanctity of marriage’ and developing in mothers a sense of responsibility in the training of their children. It was founded in 1876, originally as a parochial organization, by Mary Elizabeth Sumner, wife of the rector of Old Alresford, Hants. Granted a royal charter in 1926, it now operates in 150 dioceses and is growing in Africa.
