Quick Reference

A cut to a shot which can be inferred to be causally related either to the preceding shot or to others in a sequence: for example, if in the first shot we see a character look out of frame, and in the second we see a moving car, we can infer that the character is looking at the car. See also causation; continuity editing; compare unmotivated cut.
