Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The shadow of a hill or mountain, cast by the rising or setting Sun on to the atmosphere or a layer of cloud. Regardless of the shape of the mountain, the shadow always appears as a dark cone. In reality the edges of the shadow are parallel, but appear to converge because of perspective. See also shadow of the Earth.
