Quick Reference

An oncogene encoding a protein (interferon regulatory factor 4, IRF4, 405 aa) that interacts with myd88 and is involved in a regulatory pathway for B-cell proliferation and differentiation. This regulatory system is aberrant in most myelomas, although the IRF4 is not altered itself. In some cases IRF4 is overproduced as a result of a chromosomal translocation that puts it next to the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus. See IRFs.
