Amer. composer. Co‐founder, Co‐operative Studio for Elec. Mus., Ann Arbor, 1958–66. Composer with Merce Cunningham Dance Co. 1966–74. Teacher at Univ. of Calif., Santa Cruz, 1973–5 (prof. from 1975). Prof. at Mills Coll., Oakland, from 1981. Among first to use live elec. mus. processes, devising a computerized system which he called cybersonics. Comps. incl. Swarm, for vn., concertina, bowed crosscut saw, and cybersonic modification.
