Whose sensibilities were developed through associations with Burne-Jones, Rossetti, Morris, and Ruskin. He acquired illuminated MSS, early French, Italian, and German printed books, and fine press, especially Kelmscott Press, books. His collections, and the catalogues he published of portions of them, set new standards of connoisseurship that influenced later collectors, such as Perrins, who bought a number of his manuscripts.
