1. A family of genes encoding proteins involved in DNA repair (see mismatch repair). Originally described in bacteria, but homologues are found in eukaryotes; e.g. the mut7 gene in Caenorhabditis elegans, which is homologous to the human gene mutated in Werner's syndrome, encodes a protein implicated in RNA interference.
2. Methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MUT) (EC 188.8.131.52) is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyses the isomerization of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA.
