The notion that enterprises should be managed in the interests of both shareholders and employees. The mutual gains enterprise is one that is responsive to all its stakeholders and ideally should be characterized by a flexible, high performance work system, coupled with job security, high wages, profit-sharing, and employee involvement. A mutual gains strategy is an approach to workforce management that seeks to promote shared interests and cooperation, whilst mutual gains bargaining involves attempts by management and union to identify common interests.
