(MMF) an immunosuppressant drug used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation and also in the treatment of a range of autoimmune diseases. It is derived from the fungus Penicillium stoloniferum and acts by blocking purine synthesis in lymphocytes. It is administered by mouth or intravenous infusion; neutropenia and gastrointestinal side-effects may limit its use. Trade name: CellCept.
