Quick Reference

One of the two main classes of cells produced by the bone marrow, the others being lymphoid cells. The myeloid series includes megakaryocytes, erythrocyte precursors, mononuclear phagocytes, and all the polymorphonuclear leucocytes. Myeloid cells all derive from a single stem cell and the Philadelphia chromosome is found in the whole series. Myeloid is often used in a narrower sense to mean mononuclear phagocytes and granulocytes, excluding the erythroid lineage.
