Quick Reference

(MLCK)

A calmodulin-regulated serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin II light chains and activates the myosin motor. At least three different isoforms exist in heart, skeletal, and smooth muscle, and the smooth muscle form is found in nonmuscle cells. Mutations in MLCK2 are associated with midventricular hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
