A class of fibroblast-like cells resembling smooth muscle cells, that have arrays of actin microfilaments, myosin, and other muscle proteins arranged in such a way as to indicate they are capable of contraction. They are commonly found in granulation tissue formed during wound healing and are also found in the intima of some thickened arteries.
