Quick Reference

A tale apparently fabricated in the 17th cent. to discredit the validity of M. Parker's episcopal consecration. It alleged that at the Nag's Head tavern in Cheapside J. Scory constituted Parker and others bishops by placing a Bible on the neck of each of them in turn with the words ‘Take thou authority to preach the Word of God sincerely’.
