Deputy or representative. In Sunni Islamic law, refers to the authorized representative of a qadi (judge) or local magistrate. Refers to a critical concept of agency in Shii Islam: al-naib al-amm is a general deputy during the occultation of the imam, al-naib al-imam is a deputy of the imam, and al-naib al-sidara is a deputy in charge of the state's religious administration.
