(Meyerbeer: Les Huguenots). Ten. A Huguenot nobleman. He has fallen in love with a woman he has seen but whose identity he does not know. She is the Catholic Valentine de Saint‐Bris, betrothed to the Comte de Nevers. She returns Raoul's love but her fiancé will not release her. During her father's attempted massacre of the Huguenots, she joins Raoul and they are both killed by her father's soldiers. Duet (with Valentine): O ciel, où courez‐vous? (‘O heavens, where are you rushing off to?’). Created (1836) by Adolphe Nourrit.
