Transportation. Refers to original sources, faithfully transmitted once their authenticity has been ascertained; often understood in contrast with aql (reason), which arrives at judgments through logic, experiment, and so on. Naql is therefore transmission of a special sort, and rational judgment is allowed only with regard to the method of verification of the authenticity of the source. Naql is usually a feature of Islamic law and religious scholarship but is occasionally found in other disciplines, such as theology, philosophy, and literary criticism.
