2 (Britten: Owen Wingrave). Ten. The ballad‐singer who tells of an earlier young Wingrave who hated fighting, even in childhood, and was killed by his father as a coward. Created (1971, TV/1973) by Peter Pears (who also created Sir Philip Wingrave, the two roles to be taken by the same singer).
