Quick Reference

A provider of distance learning, blended learning, and e‐learning, the NEC was founded in 1962 in order to provide educational opportunities for learners who are unable or unwilling to undertake conventional modes of attendance, or who desire a ‘second chance’ at education. Its curriculum places it firmly in the tertiary sector, and extends from General Certificate of Secondary Education courses to professional training and updating in vocational areas such as management and childcare. Operating largely on a basis of distributed, asynchronous learning, it is often used by adult learners as a first step towards an Open University course.

Subjects: Education.
