A service operated by the Metropolitan Police Service on behalf of all UK police forces (previously known as the National Identification Bureau). It is responsible for the national collection of fingerprints and criminal records, and other search and disclosure services. The National Fingerprint Office in NIS provides a fingerprint service to the armed services police forces, States of Jersey Police, Ministry of Defence Police, Royal Mail, Interpol, Scottish police forces, and the Prison Service who are not part of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System. The NFO also maintains the national fingerprint hardcopy collection.
