A credit‐based awarding body whose qualifications are delivered through further education and sixth form colleges, universities and other higher education institutions, trade unions, employers, local authorities, private training agencies, and adult education centres. It is a development of the Open College Network (OCN), which was established in 1975 for the purpose of formally accrediting the education and training undertaken by adults, and its broad purpose is to encourage wider participation in, and promote access to, vocationally related post‐compulsory learning and training. It operates as the central body for the eleven OCNs in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
