Strength-training that uses eccentric muscle actions. Lowering a barbell, bending down, running downhill, are all examples of negative resistance training. Many bodybuilders use this type of training because it is reputed to increase muscle size quickly. Typically, a training partner lifts the weight into position so that the subject can concentrate on lowering the weights.
