A transmembrane zinc endopeptidase (neutral endopeptidase, neprilysin, enkephalinase, common acute lymphocytic leukaemia antigen, CALLA, CD10, EC, 750 aa) that hydrolyses regulatory peptides such as ANP. Widely distributed but particularly highly expressed in kidney. It is an important cell surface marker in the diagnosis of human acute lymphocytic leukaemia.
