An instrument package for measuring the amount of hydrogen present within the rocks surrounding a borehole. The sonde contains a neutron source and a gamma-ray detector. The gamma rays induced in the rocks by neutron bombardment are proportional to the amount of hydrogen present. The device can be used to determine the porosity of the surrounding rocks.
