Quick Reference

A contemporary Tibetan Buddhist organization founded by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso which has its headquarters in Britain. As the name implies, the group sees itself as the heir to the early Kadampa tradition and as faithful to its tenets. By contrast, it alleges that the present Gelukpa school under the leadership of Dalai Lama XIV has departed from the teachings of the founders of the movement. In recent years there has been intense sectarian rivalry between the two groups centring on the propitiation of the protector-deity Dorje Shukden.
